The work experience equation

( 20 X hours of attempting to get your CV perfect) + ((rejigging your CV everytime you do something of interest) ( Minus-all the other interesting shit you did but no longer seems relevant because it may look too old) + (redrafting covering letters then spending x 3 hours worrying whether or not if its perfect) + (having your friends and family comment on your CV and covering letters making sure that they are truely perfect) = No reply.

R.I.P Legal career.

Edit.

As someone reminded me, something that was not born cannot die. Therefore;
R.I.P thought of having a legal career.

Lost, I'm really sorry about your experience, but please don't give up! You've got great potential and you shouldn't be disheartened by some idiots! Their loss all the way! >:(

Lost,

I don't think I've commented before (sorry, I mix you up with the Wanderings fellow and the other mooter - Lacklustre is it?)! What sort of work experience are you looking for? If it's minis then you MAY have to accept that the sets you have targeted are "out of your league" so to speak and set your sights lower(though you may still hear, many chambers will take ages to get back to you!). Make sure the people who check your applications have PERFECT spelling and grammar themselves. Not to kick you when you're down but there are a few grammatical/spelling errors in your post!

Re the pHD question - I really wouldn't do it in order to make yourself stand out in the pupillage stakes. It has a very poor cost-benefit ratio from that point of view, as in it might marginally improve your application but not as much as say a year of practical work experience. It's just not that useful in practice to have a really detailed academic knowledge of one very specific and small area of law.

That's my tuppence worth...

Thanks Andro

Anya, yes I realise that I don't really check what I've written as normally its a very unconnected rant about something.

Re: Looking at different sets of chambers, I've only carried out two mini's (not through lack of applying) one was at a band one chambers and the other a band three so perhaps I should be looking at the lower tiers.

Lost, are you registered as a student with an Inn yet ? Not sure you would be elite enough for Inner, but I dare say one of the lesser Inns would have you :) If not, get registered, put on suit and go down for lunch. Much easier to ask for minis in person.

Barboy, I am too good for inner and am a student member of the honourable society of Middle Temple.

But I will take your advice.

Thank you.
